This was in January 2021, at this time (August 2021) takkun has started GPUing people again so we're updating the thread for the record
At the time of this comment, a gtx 1080 (The card that Sam has) is priced upwards of 800 dollars on Amazon, a basic one on Newegg is around 700 dollars.

As of 5:18 pm SLT on 08/24/2021 the price tag is 3000 dollars with rough lowballed estimates.
Now of course nobody's card actually fried, but this is why graphics crashing is super faggy, if all those cards did overheat like what was possible prior to the automated derendering update on various SL viewers, that's a pretty big price tag over one little faggot graphics crashing a bunch of people over complete nonsense.
